Adding multiple MRNs to GVMS for GB to NI movements
From 26 October 2026, HMRC will introduce an enhancement to GVMS on GOV.UK.
For GB to NI movements, you will be able to use a file upload function to add up to 2,500 import Movement Reference Numbers (MRNs) to each GMR. The ability to add individual MRNs in the usual way will not change.
To upload a file of MRNs
Copy and paste MRNs from your local systems into a file. You can use the CSV template provided on-screen, add your MRNs, and then upload it.
Make sure that the file you upload:
- is either Comma-Separated Values (CSV), Microsoft Excel 2007-present (XLSX) or Open Document Spreadsheet (ODS) format.
- has one import MRN per row.
- uses column 1 for the import MRN.
- uses column 2 for the entry summary (ENS) MRN, also known as Safety and Security.
Once you have submitted the file, the MRNs will be added to the GMR.
When using GVMS on GOV.UK from 26 October 2026, you’ll be asked if you want to upload a file or add MRNs individually. The file requirements, template, and upload instructions are provided on the screen.
